- 1971: Texas Sports Investments buys the team and moves it to Houston.
- 1981 and 1986: NBA Finals trips.
- 1994: First NBA title. Hakeem Olajuwon wins MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and Finals MVP as Houston beats the Knicks in seven games.
- 1995: Back-to-back. With Clyde Drexler alongside Hakeem, the Rockets sweep the Magic and Olajuwon is Finals MVP again.
Rivalries
The Texas teams. On the way to the 1995 title, Houston beat the San Antonio Spurs in six games in the Western Conference Finals. The Spurs and the Dallas Mavericks remain the in-state measuring sticks.
