A short history
- Oct. 6, 1999: NFL owners unanimously award founder Bob McNair and Houston the league's 32nd franchise, bringing football back after the Oilers left for Tennessee.
- Sept. 6, 2000: The team is officially named the Houston Texans.
- 2002: First season. With the first pick in the draft, Houston takes quarterback David Carr.
- Sept. 8, 2002: In the first regular-season game, the Texans beat the Dallas Cowboys 19-10. Houston finishes the first season 4-12.
- AFC South titles: 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2023 and 2024.
Rivalries
- The Cowboys (intrastate): The franchise's first-ever regular-season game was a 19-10 win over Dallas, and Cowboys week still hits different in Houston.
- The AFC South: The Colts, Titans and Jaguars are on the schedule every year. The Titans carry extra weight, since that franchise started out as the Houston Oilers.
