Astros Offseason: Yordan's Big Year and New GM Randy Flores

Hot stove season is here in Space City, and there's a lot on the stove.

Yordan, being Yordan

Yordan Alvarez put together a monster 2026: a .316/.432/.601 slash line with 42 home runs, 106 RBI and 109 walks over 158 games. He's still the scariest bat in the lineup, and it isn't close.

A new GM: Randy Flores

The Astros hired Randy Flores, the St. Louis Cardinals' assistant GM, as general manager on Oct. 30. He replaces Dana Brown, who was let go in August, and becomes the 15th GM in franchise history. Flores is a former big league lefty reliever who spent eight seasons (2019-26) as a Cardinals assistant GM after joining their front office as scouting director in 2015.

What's next

First item on the list: a new manager. Joe Espada's contract was not renewed after Houston went 81-81, won the AL West, and was swept in the Wild Card Series. Pitchers and catchers can't come soon enough.
